Our Optometrist is therapeutically endorsed to prescribe ophthalmic medications for treating and managing eye conditions and diseases such as conjunctivitis, glaucoma, dry eye and ocular inflammation. Your Optometrist is able to treat acute allergic reactions, mild chemical splashes and minor eye injuries such as blunt trauma, corneal abrasions and corneal foreign bodies. A sore, red-eye, particularly if there is increasing light sensitivity, should be checked immediately by your Optometrist. This is particularly important if there is a recent history of a foreign body hitting the eye.

Eye Test

At Gladstone and Boyne Optical, your initial consultation will typically take approximately 30 minutes. Your comprehensive eye examination will involve correcting any focusing errors for distance and near tasks, along with a detailed and thorough investigation of your eye health to screen for conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts. We also check for ocular signs of general diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Optical Coherence Tomography

An OCT eye exam is a non-invasive test that provides 3-D colour-coded, cross sectional images of the retina to enable early detection and treatment of ocular disease that may develop without any noticeable symptoms.

If you are over age 25, or at risk of developing ocular disease, our Optometrist may recommend an OCT exam as part of your annual eye exam. Having regular OCT scans will enable our Optometrist to compare the images from previous years to detect any abnormalities or thickening of retinal layers. If you have been diagnosed with an ocular disease, an OCT scan will also provide the information needed to monitor treatment.

Visual Field

A visual field test is a simple and painless test used to diagnose or monitor various eye conditions. Visual field testing can help our Optometrist find early signs of diseases, like Glaucoma that gradually damage vision.
